In the 2013 General Elections, he was elected as a candidate of PTI from Constituency NA-14 Kohat to the National Assembly.

In the 2018 Pakistani General Elections, Afridi contested for the seat of NA-32 Kohat on a PTI ticket and emerged victorious. Later that year, he was appointed as the Minister of State for Interior, a position he held until 2019.Afridi’s contribution to politics has been significant, and he has been an active member of various committees in the National Assembly. In 2020, he was appointed as the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Special Committee on Kashmir, a position he held until 2022.
